For the occasion, the winners of the first "German Metal Awards" will be announced as the show goes, and the winners' music will get some extra air time. GermanMetalWiki: The radio is up!

After nearly 2 years of beta testing, we are very proud to announce the opening of the GermanMetal.com Radio!

The radio is probably your best and fastest way of discovering new German Metal bands, enjoying the ones you know already, or widening your German musical horizons. Music is streamed on it 24h a day, 7 days a week (short and occasional downtimes may occure for maintenance). For now, the radio offers continuous music, including all the current German Metal hits, but plans are being made to have a few shows with live DJs once in a while (including a very special 2008 retrospective in December).

While a majority of the songs aired are German Metal at its best, the radio is also airing most of the related genres in order to make it not too repetitive and to keep it enjoyable for long periods of listening. Other genres aired are mainly: gothic, industrial, electronic, punk, black metal, death metal, EBM, indie rock and alternative. For more information, visit our Radio FAQ.

So, just tune in and turn it loud, capt'n!

GermanMetalWiki: No artist news for a while

You have probably noticed that no artist news were posted here for a while. The reason is simple: I do not have a lot of time these days, and most of the time I spend working on the Wiki, I prefer to spend expanding it (working on the Rammstein and OOMPH! sections). Posting the latest news is very time-consuming and would require pretty much all the time I currently spend adding new artist sections, and since university will start for me in 2 weeks, it is not realistic to think that I will have more time for it than I do now in the next few months. That is why I decided to announce that, until further notice, I will stop posting artist news on the Wiki.

Anyone who has more time than me to write news articles is extremely welcome to help (read about posting news and contact me if interested). I am fully willing to forward all the German Metal news I'm getting for that person to write about!

The good news is: I will keep updating the upcoming releases, as it takes less time, so that you don't miss any important release!

Eisbrecher: Video podcast, single is out

As Eisbrecher's new single "Kann Denn Liebe Sünde Sein?" was being released today, Eisbrecher posted a video podcast (in German) in which you can hear snippets of both "Kann Denn Liebe Sünde Sein?" and a new song also included on the single. The podcast shows the band in studio, in a recording session. You can download it here.

OOMPH!: Beim Ersten Mal Tut's Immer Weh video

Along with the web premiere of their new video "Beim Ersten Mal Tut's Immer Weh", OOMPH! have revealed new information about the upcoming album "Monster":

  • The first video/single planned for the album was "Labyrinth", for which they created the fan-video contest. The winner of that contest has been chosen, and notified, and will indeed play a part in OOMPH!'s upcoming video for the song "Labyrinth". However, OOMPH! spontaneously changed their minds about this video being the first from the album, and quickly made a video for the song "Beim Ersten Mal Tut's Immer Weh" to be released before. So far, only the censored version of the video (which is quite "gore" and might not be suitable for a younger audience) has been posted online. The rush in which it was shot is noticeable, as it obviously isn't up to the standards OOMPH! used their fans to with their last videos. The uncensored version will be available in their online game "Labyrinth" within a few days.
  • The songs on "Monster" will reflect many musical genres, and is announced as "creating a link between the past, the present and the future" of OOMPH!. Next to the EBMish song "Revolution", reminiscent of their debut album, "Monster" will contain a piano ballad called "Auf Kurs" and a "tango-rock" called "In Deinen Hüften". These officially announced tracks seem to confirm the tracklist of the album, posted here earlier.
  • The album will be available in 5 editions:
    • The standard edition, available in most CD shops of Germany and most German online retailers, containing 13 songs.
    • The download edition, available from iTunes and Napster, containing 14 songs.
    • The limited edition, available from most CD shops of Germany and most German online retailers, containing the standard 13-songs CD, but in an altogether chunkier package in a sleek digi-pack with a chocker-block bonus DVD.
    • The limited Amazon.de edition, available from Amazon.de, and containing the same as the normal limited edition, along with a bonus track on the CD.
    • The limited Müller edition, available from Müller and featuring the same as the limited Amazon.de edition, but with a different bonus track. I personally couldn't find what sort of shop Müller is exactly.

Polarkreis 18: New album being recorded

Only 2 years after their self-titled debut, Polarkreis 18 have already announced the recording of a new album, which will be out on October 10th, 2008. Not much information has been revealed about it, except that one of the songs from it will be the theme song of the upcoming German movie Krabat. This is quite a coincidence, as ASP's album based on the Krabat story (originally a book) is coming out this August!

OOMPH!: New single in charts

As it seems, "Beim Ersten Mal Tut's Immer Weh" is going to be OOMPH!'s first single release from "Monster", as a promo single for it has already entered the DAC Charts, getting the 10th spot directly on its first week. No announcement has yet been made about the upcoming single, but it should soon be coming.

Also, Amazon.de already lists 2 different editions of "Monster" for pre-order: one which is exclusive to Amazon.de and has a bonus track, in a CD+DVD format for 20 Euros, as well as a limited edition in a 2CD format for 19 Euros.

In Extremo: Live concert stream, new tour dates

In Extremo's new tour Ius Primae Noctis has barely started, that the band has already announced a new tour for the end of the year, the Sängerkrieg tour. The band will extensively tour Germany, and make a quick passage in Switzerland and Austria. But for those living far away, the experience of an In Extremo concert will be available live on the Internet. On www.inextremo.de and several other websites (e.g. vertigo.fm, prosieben.de or bild.de), In Extremo's concert in Bonn's Museumsmeile on the 31st of July will be streamed live for free. The bad news is that the show is scheduled for 20:00 CET, which is 14:00 for Americans on the East coast (EST timezone), and even earlier for the ones further West (you can use this converter to know your time difference with CET). Also, even though www.inextremo.de is in English, you might have to use the German version to get the link, or use this direct link to the player. An interview in German with the band will be aired there 30 minutes prior to the show.

Here are the Sängerkrieg tour dates:

10.12.2008 Switzerland-Zürich, Schützenhalle Albisgütli
11.12.2008 Austria-Graz, Helmut-Liszt-Halle

Das Ich: New album called Kannibale

The Industrial band Das Ich have announced that their new album, called "Kannibale" ("Cannibals"), is currently in production and has been announced for October 2008. In the meantime, samples will slowly be added to their label's page. They have promised this album would be their "harshest and most brutal by far". Stay tuned for more information as it gets revealed!

Eisregen: Knochenkult out in September

Massacre Records have announced a release date for the new album of the controversial "Extreme Metal" band Eisregen. On the 26th of September, "Knochenkult" ("Bone cult") will be released in a limited digipack edition. Fans of the band can already pre-order it on EMP.

Eisregen are mainly known in Germany for having some of their albums indexed, and one fully banned due to the violent and explicit content of the lyrics. However, on the German Death/Black Metal scene, they have a very strong fan base and have a sort of cult band status. They are not as heavy as they might seem, and fans of harder Metal might find them refreshing, as their use of violins and other acoustic elements are mixed in very nicely. You might also know them through some of the members' side-projects Eisblut and Ewigheim. Their official website hasn't been updated in a while, but their MySpace page has recent entries and some samples.

Knorkator: The end of Knorkator

Along with Knorkator's latest newsletter came very sad news: they are going to put an end to Knorkator this year, after 13 years spent as a part of the German musical scene. The mastermind of the project, Alf Ator, has decided to move to Shanghai, China, and the lead singer, Stumpen, has declared he has no intention to make music with anyone else than Alf Ator.

Knorkator is a truly unique band, playing humoristic Neue Deutsche Härte. While their lyrics are never serious, their musical compositions show a very high level of musical skills, and someone who doesn't understand the lyrics will find their songs emotionally and technically complex. One of their most notable characteristics is the ability of Stumpen, the lead singer, to sing using falsetto and to accurately reach amazingly high notes.

Before departing the scene, Knorkator will release a memory from their last tour, taking place this fall. The double DVD will be called "Weg Nach Unten" (just like their most famous song) and contain excerpts from several concerts. You can catch Knorkator live for a last time at one of these concerts:

Eisbrecher: Single release pushed back, new live bassist

Eisbrecher's next album "Sünde" is now past the production state, and the mastered songs are now on their way to become a finished CD. The single "Kann Denn Liebe Sünde Sein?" was supposed to be released in 2 days, on the 11th of June, but it has now been pushed back to the 18th.

It has also been announced that Eisbrecher's live bassist will not be part of the live crew anymore, for professional reasons. You can read his statement in the official forums, and reply to it in the German section. He will be replaced by Olli Pohl, who has already worked with Eisbrecher in the early years, as well as with Megaherz (Alexx and Noel Pix are also former Megaherz members).

OOMPH!: Release date, tracklist, tour support...

OOMPH!'s new album "Monster" is coming soon, and more information about it is now available:

  • The release date is being rumored to be the 15th of August, but no official announcement has been made about it.
  • It is possible to preview one of the album's songs ("Beim Ersten Mal Tut's Immer Weh") inside the game "Labyrinth" which you can play on OOMPH!'s official website. It is a quite entertaining game, and we encourage you to try it at night, to let the scary ambiance reach you better. New content is being added to it once in a while.
  • After asking their fans to try and design the cover for "Monster", they have now asked them to participate to the next music video. No information has been revealed about the video, but OOMPH! are asking their fans to recreate their favourite scenes from the band's previous videos and to post them on OOMPH!'s myvideo channel.
  • The Swedish band All Ends has been confirmed as the opening act for OOMPH!'s tour next fall.

Megaherz's single "Mann Von Welt" is already out since a few weeks, and the new album is on its way. The release date is still set for July the 25th, and a tracklist has now been posted on Amazon.de. It is interesting to note that 2 songs should contain female vocals from the ex-vocalist of Bloodflowerz, Kirsten Zahn, and that one song title is in French ("L'Aventure", which could both mean "The Adventure" or "The Affair"). Whether the full song is in French is unknown for now. So according to Amazon, here is what the album will contain:

Turmion Kätilöt: Download USCH! for free

For a few weeks already, the Finnish Industrial-Metal band Turmion Kätilöt have been offering their new album "USCH!" as a free download on their new label's website. This is already the band's third album, and the decision to give it as a free download is quite surprising as the band is big enough to make a fair amount of money from their albums. The band is currently in open conflict with their previous label, Spinefarm Records (see previous Turmion Kätilöt news on GermanMetalWiki). Here's the album's tracklist:

  1. Vuosi 2008

ASP: Next album to be called Zaubererbruder

Originally planned for last spring, the release date of ASP's next album has finally been set to August 29th. The double-CD will be called "Zaubererbruder - Der Krabat Liederzyklus" and will contain 15 songs in total, including the five which could already be heard on the different versions of the Ich Bin Ein Wahrer Satan single. The album was supposed to be called Krabat, but because of copyright issues, it has to be renamed to Zaubererbruder. Krabat is the title of a book by Ottfried Preussler, and Zaubererbruder will be strongly inspired by the story of the book, where a young boy named Krabat learns black magic from an evil sorcerer, who then holds his talented apprentice captive. ASP will use the story to talk about "the seduction of young people by a corrupt system".

Two of the five songs from Zaubererbruder available on the Ich Bin Ein Wahrer Satan singles (Mein Herz Erkennt Dich Immer and Zaubererbruder) featured other artists (Lisa Pawelke from Faun and Eric Fish from Subway to Sally), but no information about more potential featured artists on the album has been given. On a side-note, I found out that a movie was also being shot featuring the Krabat story. Here is the album's tracklist:

CD1

  1. Intro: Betteljunge
  2. Krabat
  3. Die Teufelsmühle
  4. Denn Ich Bin Der Meister
  5. Fluchtversuch
  6. Elf Und Einer
  7. Mein Herz Erkennt Dich Immer
  8. Verwandlungen I-III

CD2

  1. Abschied
  2. Der Schnitter Tod
  3. Spottlied Auf Die Harten Wanderjahre
  4. Zaubererbruder
  5. Der Geheimnisvolle Fremde (Ja, Ja, Drei Mal Hurra!)
  6. Am Ende
  7. Outro: Zwei Schwäne

GermanMetalWiki: Back on track

Very few updates have been posted lately on GermanMetalWiki, as I was very busy moving from Germany to Canada. In the next few days I'll post all the missed news. As for the sections' content, the Rammstein section is being built at the moment, and OOMPH!'s will follow shortly. Due to the high amount of information which will be contained in Rammstein's section, it will still take quite some work before it is done. Anyone interested in helping is very welcome to do so!

L'Âme Immortelle: Durch Fremde Hand

2008 is definitely a productive year for L'Âme Immortelle. After releasing their new studio album "Namenlos" as well as a compilation of their early works, they have announced today the upcoming release of "Durch Fremde Hand", which they consider as "a contextual and musical continuation and extension" of "Namenlos". In fact, the double album's first CD will contain the same tracks as "Namenlos", but all of them in remixed versions by various artists, such as ASP, Dope Stars Inc. or Bella Donna. The second CD will contain six completely new tracks. The worldwide release of the album will be made on July the 25th.

It will come in two editions: the special edition, limited to 2000 copies, and the standard edition. It is already possible to order it from the German webshop Infrarot; if you want the special edition, it might be a good idea to order it as soon as possible. For those prefer to wait, it will be released in America on Isotank and Metropolis, and Canadians will have the luck to find it in many CD stores, as the distribution will be made by Universal Music there.

OOMPH!: Design Monster's artwork!

OOMPH! are planning to have their tenth album, called "Monster", released by the end of Summer 2008, but the artwork is yet to be designed. They are actually holding a contest in which they ask you to design your own cover for Monster. Here is oomph.de's statement:

"[...] the sky’s the limit for your imagination and creativity, and naturally the winning cover design will be selected personally by Oomph! when the time is right. But you’ll have to hurry a little because the deadline for your cover designs is June 27th. And the best thing about the whole contest is that the album will be on your favorite record store shelves with your cover when it’s released in the late summer. We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with. So set your imaginations free and when you’re finished, upload your covers here."

Good luck to everyone!

Eisbrecher: Release dates

The release dates of Eisbrecher's new album and single have been confirmed today on their official website. The album, "Sünde" (in English: "Sin") will be released on the 22nd of August, and an American release is also planned for the 26th of August. The single, called "Kann Denn Liebe Sünde Sein" (in English: "Can Love Be A Sin?"), will be released as early as the 11th of July, but only in Germany.

As for the album, the band promised it would be their darkest and heaviest album so far. The singer Alexx also said the theme of "sin" will be recurrent through the album, as all songs will "deal exclusively with sinful activities". Eisbrecher's last album Antikörper was already much heavier than its self-titled predecessor, so it will be interesting to see how far they have gone into this direction.

Unheilig: Spiegelbild tracklist & pre-order

As promised a few days ago, Unheilig has now revealed some more information about the Spiegelbild EP to be released on the 19th of July. It will contain, along with the main title, 2 different versions of Spiegelbild, an orchestral version of An Deiner Seite, and three new exclusive tracks. But the exclusive tracks are not just leftovers from the Puppenspiel sessions; according to Der Graf, they have been specially composed and recorded for this EP, and each of them is so good that it could have been released as a single of its own.

For those who want to own this EP, which is limited to 3.333 copies worldwide, there is only one option: ordering it online from Emso. The EP is exclusively sold there, and can already be pre-ordered (if you really want it, you should hurry, as it will probably be sold out before it is even released, as happened with the limited edition of Puppenspiel!).

Here is the detailed tracklist:

  1. Spiegelbild (Extended Version)
  2. Spiegelbild (Krupps Remix)
  3. Schlaflos (Exklusiver Track)
  4. Die Alte Leier (Exklusiver Track)
  5. Hexenjagd (Exklusiver Track)
  6. An Deiner Seite (Orchester Version)
  7. Spiegelbild (Album Version)
