Beatsteaks

Audio sample, "Demons Galore", from the album .Limbo Messiah :

  • Description: The Beatsteaks are a Punk band singing in English even though they are from Germany. They were formed in 1995, playing Hardcore music, but didn't enjoy much commercial success before 2002, when they had a first hit with the song "Let Me In". They got quite some help from probably the most famous German Punk band, Die Ärzte, who helped much of the Beatsteaks' promotion, as well as mentioning them in the hit-song "Unrockbar". The Beatsteaks are now considered rather mainstream due to the large commercial success they had ever since the album Smacksmash in 2004.
  • Genres: Punk, Rock, Alternative, Hardcore
  • Website(s): Official (German/English/Japanese), MySpace
  • Music video: "Hand In Hand", from the album Smacksmash.

Bela B.

Audio sample, "Gitarre Runter", from the album Bingo :

  • Description: Bela B. is mainly known for being the drummer and one of the singers of the legendary Punk band Die Ärzte. Having composed many of the Ärzte songs himself, he released his first solo album in 2006, named "Bingo". He enjoyed quite some commercial success, but after some touring and a few single releases, Bela went back to work with Die Ärzte on new material. His solo project features many songs which's style is very different from Die Ärzte, while some others are more similar. The high influence of American music such as Country and classic Rock'n'Roll can be noticed, and a song even features Lee Hazlewood. Another characteristic of Bela B. is his low voice. Interestingly, while touring as Bela B., Bela played guitars and not drums.
  • Genres: Punk, Rock, Rock'n'Roll, Country
  • Website(s): Official (German)
  • Music video: "Tag Mit Schutzumschlag", from the album Bingo.

Betray My Secrets

Audio sample, "God And Me", from the album Betray My Secrets :

  • Description: Founded in 1997, Betray My Secrets was a side project uniting 2 members from the band Darkseed and the guitarist X-ti from Megaherz. Even though no official announcement was made, it is considered disbanded, as their only album was released in 1999. The particularity of this project is certainly the mix of hard doom metal with folk music from the Middle-East, with many Persian influences. The result sounds a bit experimental at times, but is very interesting and refreshing. The singer Stefan Hertrich and X-ti now have a new similar project called SpiRitual.
  • Genres: Metal, Progressive Metal, Doom Metal, Folk

Beyond The Void

Audio sample, "Defiance To The End", from the album I Am Your Ruin :

  • Description: Beyond The Void is a perfect example of what has become to be called Gothic rock. The vocals are low, the music some kind of soft, melancholic metal, the drums never playing too fast, and the keyboards ultrapresent. They could be compared to well established acts like The 69 Eyes, To/Die/For or HIM. Their first album was released in 2002, and they started being well known on the Gothic scene after extensive touring with L'Âme Immortelle in 2008. Interestingly, they appear to have made most of their promotion before that time in the virtual multiplayer game Second Life, in which they even toured. As a matter of fact, their music video for Seductora was shot in the game.
  • Genres: Gothic, Rock, Metal
  • Website(s): Official (English/German), MySpace
  • Music video: "Seductora", from the album Gloom Is A Trip For Two.

Black Heaven

Audio sample, "Trugbild", from the album Trugbild :

  • Description: Black Heaven is one of many projects from Martin and Tina Schindler. Mainly known for the now dissolved project Mantus, they also are the head of the metal-orientated band Sepia. As of Black Heaven, is it much more driven by electronic music and danceable beats, even though some songs do feature some electric guitars. They are linked to the Gothic scene, partly because of their other projects, and partly because Black Heaven's songs do sound a bit "dark" and melancholic at times. The music remains however very accessible for all fans of electronic music.
  • Genres: Electronic, Darkwave, Gothic, Rock
  • Website(s): Official (German), MySpace

Blind Passengers

Audio sample, "Grey Sunday", from the album Neosapiens :

  • Description: The Blind Passengers were active from 1987 to 2001. They were amongst the pioneer bands who started mixing Industrial music with Rock and Metal elements. They enjoyed quite some success at the end of the 90s through Europe, but never got to be really known in America, even though they once toured South America. The lyrics and atmopshere of their songs is science-fiction orientated. Nik Page, one of the singers and head of the band, published a sci-fi novel called Neosapiens, and the last Blind Passengers normal album had the same title. In 2005, a final release was made with the best of "Timemachine", including several re-recordings. Whilst former member Rayner Schirner became producer for the band Lola Angst, Nik Page started a solo project. Nik Page later started two further musical projects: Songs Of Lemuria and Cromax International.
  • Genres: Industrial, Rock, Alternative, Neue Deutsche Härte
  • Website(s): Official (English/German)
  • Music video: "Grey Sunday", from the album Neosapiens.

Blood

Audio sample, "Orgasmatick", from the album Psike :

  • Description: Even though Blood is a Spanish band, they deserved to be listed on GermanMetalWiki for the simple reason that their music is exactly what we consider German Metal. As a matter of fact, their main influence in Rammstein; they even covered a Rammstein song in Spanish. They also are the band which sounds the most like Rammstein which I ever found. Hard riffs, rough vocals, infectious keyboards; Rammstein fans will be pleased to discover this band. But whilst their influences are clear, it has to be mentioned Blood are not copycats - their compositions are unique and distinctive, with a slight Spanish touch. They are still quite underground, but are pioneers of the Industrial Metal scene in Spain.
  • Genres: Neue Deutsche Härte, Metal, Industrial
  • Website(s): Official (Spanish/English), MySpace
  • Music video: "Conciencia", from the album Psike.

Bloodflowerz

Audio sample, "Black Snake Sister", from the album 7 Benedictions - 7 Maledictions :

  • Description: Bloodflowerz started in 2001 and have officially disbanded in December 2007, but left a door open for an eventual comeback. Led by the emotional vocals of the female singer, Kirsten Zahn, they played Alternative Rock, with a clear influence from international bands like Evanescence. The band itself enjoyed moderate success, but despite playing a music that could fit into mainstream, they could never have a big amount of popularity in Germany.
  • Genres: Alternative, Rock, Nu-Metal, Gothic
  • Website(s): Official (German/English), MySpace
  • Music video: "Damaged Promises", from the album Dark Love Poems.

Blutengel

Audio sample, "My Saviour", from the single My Saviour :

  • Description: Blutengel is probably one of the most prominent Darkwave bands in Germany, helping to define the genre nowadays. It was formed when Chris Pohl left his former band Seelenkrank, which was quite similar to the early Blutengel material. Even though female vocals are very present, the female members of the band changed over the years and the head of the project remains Chris Pohl, who is one of the most influential musicians / producers / label owner from the German Gothic scene. He has several side-projects, including Terminal Choice, Miss Construction and Tumor. Blutengel's music centers around electronics and dark atmospheric keyboards. The visuals and lyrics are definitely Gothic, mixing themes of darkness, hopeless romance, death and lust.
  • Genres: Darkwave, EBM, Electronic, Gothic
  • Website(s): Official (German), MySpace
  • Music video: "The Oxidising Angel", from the album The Oxidising Angel.

Blutgericht

Audio sample, "Nie Erhört", from the album Schwarzes Gift :

  • Description: From DeutschMusikLand: "Blutgericht was founded by Konrad Schneider 2001 in Bad Dürkheim as a project. He tried to create a style between "darkwave" and "metal" and recorded the demo "2/3". In 2004, as he moved towns, he got to know Johannes Wegner in school and gave him the demo "2/3". Johannes loved the disc and transformed, with Konrad, the project to a band." Other members have since then joined this which is still unsigned and underground. The band's sound can be identified to Neue Deutsche Härte, but with more attention being given to heavier Metal elements.
  • Genres: Metal, Neue Deutsche Härte, Hardcore, Thrash Metal
  • Website(s): Official (German), MySpace

Bluttaufe

Audio sample, "Mein Geschundener Leichnam", from the album Mein Fleisch An Deinen Lippen :

  • Description: Even though Bluttaufe existed from 1994 to 2003, they released very little material. In fact, only one full-length album was released, "Mein Fleisch An Deinen Lippen" from late 2000. Their other releases are various demo CDs as well are split-CDs with other bands. A second album, [negativ:weiss], was announced in 2002 but no further news were given before the announcement of the end of the band, in 2003. Their music is clearly Black Metal, sticking pretty well to the characteristics of the genre whilst still being creative enough to sound different from other Black Metal bands.
  • Genres: Black Metal, Thrash Metal
  • Website(s): Official (English), MySpace

Böhse Onkelz

Audio sample, "Feuer", from the album Adios :

  • Description: Böhse Onkelz was a very controversial band founded in the early 80s, and disbanded in 2005 after a huge and impressive show organized as a festival. In their early years, the Onkelz played punk as a part of the "Oi!" movement. Their lyrics dealt with the issues they faced everyday in the streets of their hometown Frankfurt, and also other more controversial topics, including the xenophobic song "Türken Raus" and various songs against the Hippie movement (Turks out). As the Oi! movement evolved in Germany, it became linked to the Skinheads; Böhse Onkelz themselves became Skinheads at first, but when the movement became political, right-winged and too violent, they left it. However, many of their fans were Skinheads and still went to their concerts, creating a lot of trouble. For a while, the Onkelz stopped making music, and came back a few years after, near the end of the 80s, with a new style of music mixing metal and punk. They quickly gained popularity, but their past affected the way they were talked about in the media, being linked with political right-wing because of the Skinhead movement, even though they had, in fact, never had anything to do with politics. A war between the Onkelz and the German medias started, and the Onkelz answered to all the lies by writing many songs against the media, which only contributed to make the war bigger, and encouraging the media to go as far as to to call the Onkelz Nazis, even though the Onkelz stated several times they were anti-nazis. This war would go on until the disbanding of the Onkelz in 2006, which was however not cause by the medias but rather the feeling they had nothing new to offer. They quit at a peak of success, reaching tops in the German charts, even whilst being banned from numerous CD stores, TV channels and radio stations. Unfortunately, with time, the lies of the medias influenced the public opinion and many still believe the Onkelz are linked to nazism; for most German people, such controversies, may they be well founded or not, are not welcome, as a lot of people feel very strongly about this topic due to their past. Musically, the Onkelz kept and developed the mix of Punk and Metal they created, and mixed some keyboards with it once in a while. The last album, Adios, was a bit more rock-orientated than the others. Their bassist, Stephan Weidner, who wrote most of the Onkelz songs and lyrics, now has his own solo project called Der W.
  • Genres: Punk, Metal, Rock
  • Website(s): Official (German), Official (English)
  • Music video: "Onkelz Vs. Jesus", from the album Adios.

Bronx Boys

Audio sample, "Amokeffekt", from the album Zurück In Die Bronx :

  • Description: Bronx Boys is a band that information is hard to come by. They are a diverse group, playing songs that sound influenced by both punk and heavier metal. The lyrics in the music are not constant either, for some songs are meant to be funny while others are serious or just fun. They make cover songs as well as material of their own. Fans of J.B.O. should check Bronx Boys out.
  • Genres: Punk, Rock, Nu-Metal, Humoristic
